About Our Programs

Educational
These services are offered in the after-school setting and are structured to strengthen the academic skills of our participants.

  • Computer classes are conducted using a wide assortment of educational software that is designed to make the learning process challenging, yet fun.
  • Tutoring and homework assistance is provided for participants who either request it or demonstrate a need for individualized attention.
  • Cultural program activities are offered and give children the opportunity to learn and explore cultural traditions, arts, drama and literature.
  • Reading, math and language arts enrichment activities take place throughout the year.
  • Personal development in the areas of life skills, job training, career and motivational speakers and college tours.

Youth Sports
The youth sports provided by PAL can be further divided into three sub-categories:

  • Leisure Activities encompass a wide range of activities such as playing pool in the game room to intramural basketball in the gymnasium. All activities are directed toward teaching the children life management skills.
  • Instructional Sports encompass activities that are designed to introduce a child to a new sport such as baseball, soccer, tennis, or golf. Initially, participants are taught the fundamental rules of these games and then they are given instruction regarding the various techniques used to execute play.
  • Competitive Sports encompasses activities, which allow participants to become a part of a team that competes against other teams in the community, around the city, and throughout the entire state. Depending upon the level of interest, PAL may have as many as twelve different basketball teams at one time.
